THE SHORT ANSWER

A Fishing Dock needs suitable shoreline placement and an Apprentice in its required slot. If it will not produce fish, check that qualification before hiring more ordinary workers.

Based on the sources below. Planning suggestions are editorial guidance; this is not a claim of hands-on testing on the latest build.

Check placement and the required worker

The dock must meet water and ground placement conditions. Once built, inspect its worker panel. The prerequisite Apprentice can belong to any guild; extra slots do not replace the required qualification.

  • Confirm the dock is connected to the shore correctly.
  • Fill the Apprentice requirement first.
  • Keep the entrance accessible and provide nearby storage.

Diagnose output instead of counting buildings

A second dock adds cost without solving an idle first dock. Watch an existing dock through its work cycle. Is it waiting for a worker, producing slowly, or unable to clear its output? Each observation points to a different next step.

Prepare the dock for winter

Cold affects the workers operating a dock, so inspect warmth at the workplace as well as at home. Machinery also needs ongoing replacement. Treat both as recurring support requirements when deciding whether the colony can sustain more fishing infrastructure.

  • Check heating coverage before cold weather.
  • Keep replacement Machinery available.
  • Consider Nets once the supporting production is unlocked.

Be careful with older fishing advice

The official Fishing Dock page includes newer fish-stock notes alongside older wording about unlimited local fish. Those descriptions are not fully consistent. We therefore do not promise permanent output or prescribe a fixed fish-per-day figure. Use the stock and production information in your current game, and compare it with recent patch notes before copying an older layout.
